LPB Call for Nominations For Louisiana Young Heroes

Louisiana Public Broadcasting announces the 2025 Louisiana Young Heroes program and the statewide call for nominations of students to be recognized as Louisiana Young Heroes. Parents, principals, teachers, guidance counselors, family members, and friends who know of high school students deserving of recognition for their tenacity, good work and commendable deeds, are encouraged to nominate them!

Black History Month Resources From PBS LearningMedia

Lyla In The Loop (K-2) Lyla in the Loop is a PBS KIDS animated series for kids ages 4-8. The show stars Lyla, a dynamic 7-year-old Black girl, her close-knit family, fantastical blue sidekick Stu, and a host of relatable and quirky characters living in her city community, who together spotlight creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills while working collaboratively with others. The series supports a wide range of learners, modeling creative expression and flexible step-by-step approaches to problem-solving.

George Washington Carver’s Impact and Inspiration (3-5, 6-8, 9-12) George Washington Carver's rise from enslavement to scientific accomplishment has inspired people worldwide, yet many just know him for identifying different uses for peanuts. In this short video, a variety of experts and scholars share their impressions of Carver as an artist, scientist, inventor, poet and humanitarian.

Valentine Cards: Exploring Relationships Between Variables (3-5, 6-8, 9-12) Determine how many valentines will be exchanged depending on the number of students in each class. This interactive exercise focuses on examining data to find a pattern and extending the pattern until a rule can be realized, taking math out of the classroom and into the real world.

Black Soldiers in the Revolutionary War | Interactive Image (6-8, 9-12) In this interactive image, students view four paintings and drawings, with accompanying commentary, to learn about Black soldiers in the Revolutionary War, including the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, Peter Salem, James Armistead Lafayette, and Black Loyalists who responded to Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation.

Feb. 12 & 13 -  GOSPEL, the latest history series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr., digs deep into the origin story of Black spirituality through sermon and song. Over the course of two nights, GOSPEL digs deep into the origin story of Black gospel music that blended the sacred spirituals with the blues tradition and soared to new heights during the Great Migration.

Nature: Attenborough and the Jurassic Sea Monster:Wednesday, February 14 at 7:00pm - Follow Sir David Attenborough and a team of forensic experts as they unearth the fossil of a giant Pliosaur, the largest Jurassic predator ever known.
